Samsung One UI 8.5 Spotted on Galaxy S24+ Test Server: What’s New?

Samsung has reportedly started internal testing of its upcoming One UI 8.5 update for select older Galaxy models, following the recent rollout schedule of One UI 8 in India. The development of the new firmware, based on Android 16, was spotted on Samsung’s internal test servers for certain Galaxy S24 series devices.

Tipster Tarun Vats shared details on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that the test firmware for the Galaxy S24+ was identified with build numbers S926BXXU9DYIA, S926BOXM9DYIA, and S926BXXU9DYIA. This version is reportedly intended for the international variant of the device, model number SM-S926B.

Earlier sightings of One UI 8.5 test builds also included the Galaxy S25 (SM-S938B) and the Galaxy Z Fold 7, though Samsung has not confirmed an official release date for the firmware. The listing primarily indicates that the update is under development.

Leaks suggest that One UI 8.5 will bring notable changes to the Phone app. The redesigned interface positions Dialer, Call Logs, and Contacts inside a pill-shaped capsule at the bottom rather than spanning the full width of the screen. The update may also introduce a feature named Direct Voicemail, which provides live transcription of recorded messages, similar to Live Voicemail on iOS.

Other apps are expected to receive design updates as well. The Studio app may get a new navigation bar along with a Stories tab at the bottom, joining existing Pictures, Albums, and Search options. Additional updates are likely in Device Care, Galaxy Store splash screens, and the app launcher.
